We saw Vivo release limited editions of its sub-brand’s iQOO Z1 and iQOO 3 5G in a span of two weeks. Recently, it was OPPO‘s turn to launch a special model of its newly announced Ace 2 phone.
And oh, boy, do we love it more now that we’ve seen pictures and videos of the actual unit.
The OPPO Ace 2 EVA Limited Edition is what we imagine themed devices to be. It’s more than a paint job; more than wallpapers and icons. Everything about it — from the packaging to the accessories — screams beloved anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. Look.
Unboxing pictures via Weibo
The purple-and-green color scheme of the unit, case, and chipset (!!!, seen here at the 5:06 mark) represents mecha Evangelion Unit-01. The retail box is shaped like a capsule, which reminds us of the mecha’s entry plug. The charger? Inspired by the mecha’s launcher. The wired headset? Reflects organization Nerv. Even the SIM ejector tool (!!! again) is a nod to extraterrestrial artifact Spear of Longinus.
In case you missed it, the whole OPPO Ace 2 EVA Limited Edition package — with a unit that has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage — is priced at ¥4,399 (around P31,090 or $616). Only 10,000 of it will be sold worldwide, starting June 1 in China. We’re not even sure if it will become available in the Philippines, considering the previous OPPO Reno Ace Gundam Edition was not released in the country.
Now, if you want to get the whole OPPO x EVA collector’s edition, you’ll have to spring ¥2,199 (P15,541 or $308), ¥399 (P2,820 or $56), and ¥299 (P2,113 or $42) for the OPPO Watch, OPPO Enco W31 TWS earbuds, and OPPO AirVOOC wireless charger, respectively.
