(Update, July 30: One of these models will be coming to the Philippines in August!)

Price and availability

The prices will vary depending on the variant, with the base model starting at ¥3,498 (around P24,702 or $490) for 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage. Meanwhile, the pricing for all the variants announced in China are as follows:

  • Vivo X50
    • 8GB/128GB: ¥3,498 (P24,702 or $490)
    • 8GB/256GB: ¥3,898 (P27,526 or $546)
  • Vivo X50 Pro
    • 8GB/128GB: ¥4,298 (P30,351 or $603)
    • 8GB/256GB: ¥4,698 (P33,176 or $659)

    • 12GB/256GB: ¥5,998 ( P42,356 or $841)

Regarding overseas release, Vivo says the X50 series “will be made available to international markets,” but it remains to be seen whether the phones will launch here. Vivo’s last flagship in the Philippines is the NEX 3, which was priced at P39,999 ($794) at launch. It’s possible that the X50 and X50 Pro won’t be priced higher than the NEX 3 if they do arrive on the local market.

Gimbal camera, 5G connectivity, and more

As expected, the biggest selling point of the X50 series is the camera system. All three handsets feature AI quad cameras, plus gimbal-like features for the camera on the Vivo X50 Pro. According to Vivo, the gimbal system is modeled after a full-size, professional gimbal that moves in the opposite direction of the camera to stabilize it.

The system also has a wider rotation angle and anti-shake area as compared to most other phones, so it should help deliver brighter and clearer images, as well as stable footage that can be directly uploaded online.

There are several shooting modes on offer here, too, including Super Wide-Angle, Super Macro, Super Night, Astro, and 60x Hyper Zoom, which is said to be superior to what the Samsung Galaxy S20 (30x) and Galaxy S20 Plus (30x) have.

Besides a new gimbal system in the main camera, the Vivo X50, X50 Pro, and X50 Pro Plus also have 5G connectivity courtesy of their chipsets. The top-of-the-line Plus variant uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, while the X50 and X50 Pro get a Snapdragon 765G.

Other notable specs include fingerprint-sensing Super AMOLED screens with a punch hole and a 90Hz (X50 and X50 Pro) or 120Hz (X50 Pro Plus) refresh rate for smoother scrolling and less tearing when playing games. There’s also a 32-megapixel camera for selfies and up to 44 watts fast charging over USB-C.
