For those who want to “go beyond the Galaxy to witness the real Magic,” mark your calendar. HONOR is holding an event at the Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona, Spain.

(Update, February 28: The HONOR Magic Vs and HONOR Magic5 series have been launched globally — and we have our quick hands-on with them!)

The former Huawei sub-brand has announced that it will launch the HONOR Magic5 flagship series and HONOR Magic Vs foldable on February 27.

Tweeted by a reliable tipster. So it’s only the HONOR Magic5 Pro and HONOR Magic5 Lite for the international market?

The launch teaser of the Magic5 series clearly shows that the company is taking aim at the world’s biggest smartphone brand, South Korea’s Samsung. The line’s expected more premium model — the HONOR Magic5 Pro — is said to be after the Samsung Galaxy S series, the latest of which is scheduled to go official February 1. The HONOR Magic5 Lite, on the other hand, will supposedly come after the Samsung Galaxy A lineup.

Alleged design of the HONOR Magic5 Pro

Word has it that the Pro variant comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 5G chip paired with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 5.0 storage; a camera sensor that offers a maximum of 100x digital zoom; a 6.8-inch OLED LPTO screen that’s adaptive and can support up to 120Hz refresh rate; a 4,800mAh battery with 50-watt wired and wireless fast charging; and Magic UI 7.0 on top of Android 13 OS.

Supposedly the HONOR Magic5 Lite

The Lite version is reportedly what’s known as the HONOR X9a 5G in the Philippines and other Asian markets. The latter is priced at P16,990 (around $311) locally and boasts an ultra-durable display, as we at Revü have shown in the video below.

As mentioned earlier, the February 27 event will also mark the official global debut of the HONOR Magic Vs, the foldable smartphone that was first announced in China end of last year. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4, the Magic Vs folds like a book and transforms into a tablet-sized phone if you need more screen real estate. Here are its specs:

  • 7.9-inch foldable OLED, 2,272 x 1,984 resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, 1,920Hz high-frequency PWM eye protection
  • 6.45-inch external OLED, 2,560 x 1,080 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 1,920Hz high-frequency PWM eye protection
  • 4nm octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 with 5G
  • 8GB/12GB RAM
  • 256GB/512GB
  • Triple 50-megapixel, f/1.9 main, 50-megapixel, f2.0 ultrawide/macro, 8-megapixel, f/2.4 telephoto with 3x optical zoom rear cameras
  • 16-megapixel, f/2.45 front camera
  • Side fingerprint reader
  • 5,000mAh battery with 66-watt fast charging
  • Magic UI 7.0 based on Android 12
  • Orange, Cyan, Black colors

Recall that the brand already informed us in December that the HONOR Magic Vs will be released in the Philippines.
