HONOR will launch a new midrange smartphone in the Philippines next week. The HONOR X8a is the latest addition to the company’s X series lineup, which already features the HONOR X9a 5G and HONOR X7a.

(Update, March 14: The HONOR X8a’s price for the Philippine market is revealed!)

Announced for international markets, the device will debut locally on March 14 in three elegant colors: Cyan Lake, Midnight Black, and Titanium Silver. In the United Kingdom, the HONOR X8a is priced from £219.99 (around $260 or P14,396 converted).

Looking at the specs sheet, the phone brings a 6.7-inch LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 100-megapixel rear camera to the midrange segment. The flat screen has impressively slim bezels at the top and on the sides and can operate at up to 90Hz, while the main cam is joined by a 5-megapixel ultrawide option and a 2-megapixel macro sensor.

On paper, the HONOR X8a should be able to take some nice shots with its 100-megapixel shooter, so it’s no surprise that the brand is touting it as “a camera phone that can capture DSLR-like images,” which is a tall order for any smartphone regardless of price point. For selfies, it is equipped with a 16-megapixel front-facing camera.

Unfortunately, you won’t get 5G data speeds here, as the handset is powered by a MediaTek Helio G88 chipset that uses a 12nm manufacturing process. It does come with up to 8GB of RAM to help with demanding apps and multitasking, though. On the software side, the X8a runs HONOR’s own Magic UI 6.1 interface on top of Android 12.

Rounding out the specs sheet is a 4,500mAh battery that supports 22.5-watt SuperCharge fast charging. The company advertises that a 30-minute charge can fill the battery to 50%.
