Technology giant Huawei has kicked off sales of its highly anticipated Pura70 series in China. Just recently, the company renamed its P series to Pura, and the Huawei Pura70 phones are the first to launch under the new flagship lineup.

(Update, April 28: Our Huawei Pura 70 Pro initial review is up!)

Huawei’s Pura70 line includes four models — the Pura70, Pura70 Pro, Pura70 Pro Plus, and Pura70 Ultra. The Pro and Ultra variants are already available for purchase in China, while the base and Plus versions are expected to go on sale starting April 22. We at Revü Philippines will be in Shenzhen next week, so hopefully, we get to see all of them. Anyhow, pricing for the Chinese market is as follows:

  • Huawei Pura70
    • 12GB/256GB – ¥5,499 (around $760 or P43,408)
    • 12GB/512GB – ¥5,999 ($829 or P47,355)
    • 12GB/1TB – ¥6,999 ($967 or P55,248)
  • Huawei Pura70 Pro
    • 12GB/256GB – ¥6,499 ($898 or P51,301)
    • 12GB/512GB – ¥6,999 ($967 or P55,248)
    • 12GB/1TB – ¥7,999 ($1,105 or P63,142)
  • Huawei Pura70 Pro Plus
    • 16GB/512GB – ¥7,999 ($1,105 or P63,142)
    • 16GB/1TB – ¥8,999 ($1,244 or P71,036)
  • Huawei Pura70 Ultra
    • 16GB/512GB – ¥9,999 ($1,382 or P78,929)
    • 16GB/1TB – ¥10,999 ($1,520 or P86,823)

Last year, the Huawei P60 Pro arrived in the Philippines with a base price of P58,999 ($1,034) for the 8GB/256GB edition, while the top-of-the-line version with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage was priced at P69,999 ($1,227) at launch. The local preorder period ended May 25, 2023. It remains to be seen if Huawei would offer all four Pura70 variants here, but our money is on the Pura70 and Pura 70Pro, with the latter being the most probable candidate for an international release.

All four models share the same language, except the regular version has flat sides and the Pura70 Ultra features a slightly different camera module with a one-inch image sensor (likely a 50-megapixel Sony IMX989 unit) and a retractable main camera. Joining the primary shooter is a 40-megapixel ultrawide and a 50-megapixel telephoto. With its upgraded camera system, the Pura70 Ultra is said to be capable of capturing sharp photos of fast-moving objects like a supercar moving at 300km/h, based on Huawei’s promotion video.

The Pura70, Pura70 Pro, and Pura70 Pro Plus feature a smaller 50-megapixel main sensor that’s said to be a custom OV50H unit from OmniVision. All four smartphones have a single 13-megapixel camera for selfies and video chat.

Interestingly, Huawei hasn’t revealed anything about the chipset inside its latest smartphones other than the fact that they support satellite-communication services in China. The Pura70 is reportedly built around the same Kirin 9000s chip that powers the Mate 60 family, while the others could be powered by the rumored Kirin 9010, a 5nm SoC that might give the Apple A12X Bionic, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, and MediaTek Dimensity 9200 Plus a run for their money, according to reports.
