It is not even close.

The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra has dislodged the HONOR Magic6 Pro as the world’s best camera phone with a score of 163, five points more than the Magic’s rating. This is based on the most recent update of Dxomark, which specializes in evaluating not only the quality of images shot on devices, but also how good their battery, display, and audio are.

The development comes just hours after HONOR’s latest flagship model was launched in the Philippines as “the world’s No. 1 magic AI camera phone.”

According to Dxomark, the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra delivers an unmatched photo performance in various lighting conditions. Exposure and contrast are nicely balanced, and the results are particularly stunning when viewed on an HDR screen, where colors truly pop. Autofocus is fast and accurate, keeping things sharp even during video capture, thanks to good stabilization. One standout feature is the variable aperture, which, in combination with the Ultra’s large image sensor, means Huawei’s most premium phone can optimize depth of field for each scene.

Dxomark says overall, the Pura 70 Ultra captures images, including zoom shots, that strike a great balance between preserving texture and minimizing noise. Portrait mode produces natural-looking bokeh effects with smooth gradients and accurate subject isolation. Macro shots taken with the 3.5x telephoto lens featuring a wide f/2.1 aperture are impressively sharp.

However, video recordings on the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra can exhibit occasional areas of localized noise. In some situations, even bright light doesn’t prevent ghosting effects in moving scenes. Color quantization can be noticeable at times, particularly in low light. Noise reduction generally works well, but some pictures may exhibit unnatural textures. And telephoto zoom shots may show some instances of unnatural rendering.

While we’ve disagreed with Dxomark rankings before, our time with the Pura 70 Ultra aligns with their high praise of the device, which is now up for preorder in the Philippines alongside the Pro and non-Pro models, by the way. The series is priced from P47,999 (roughly $833).
