ASUS ROG Phone 2 launch scheduled for July 23 — report

Last year, the ASUS ROG Phone was launched at the annual Computex show in Taiwan. This year, the successor to the gaming handset is reportedly going to debut in Beijing.

According to Taipei-based publication DigiTimes, the ASUS ROG Phone 2 unveiling is scheduled for July 23, close to two months away from the date of the 2018 model’s announcement. Might as well because while the original ROG Phone became official June 4th, it was only released months after. In the case of the Philippines, we’re talking five months after — too long, in our opinion. Hopefully, that won’t be the case this time around.

Word has it that the ASUS ROG Phone 2 is also set to be showcased at ChinaJoy 2019, a gaming expo that’s happening from August 2 to August 5 in Shanghai and where 400,000 esports players are estimated to attend.

Supposedly, there will be two variants of the device, the base model of which is said to come with a ¥4,399 (around P33,071 or $637) price tag.

Only one detail is confirmed at this time: that the ROG Phone 2 will boast a screen that has a higher refresh rate of 120Hz than the predecessor’s 90Hz. This should make movements appear even smoother than before. We do expect the unit to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor paired with up to 12GB of RAM. There should be a cooling system and backlight colors, too. It’s a gaming smartphone, after all.
