Worried that OnePlus‘ new flagship phones are going to be way out of your budget? We can’t blame you. After all, their base price in the United States is already $699 (around P35,506).

(Update, May 24: We finally have an update on the phones’ availability in the Philippines!)

But today’s notice should bring you some good news. According to Digital Walker, the exclusive distributor of the brand in the Philippines, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro have the following suggested retail prices:

  • OnePlus 8
    • 8GB RAM (LPDDR4X)/128GB storage, Glacial Green color: P35,990 ($709)
  • OnePlus 8 Pro
    • 8GB RAM (LPDDR5)/128GB storage, Glacial Green color: P45,990 ($906)
    • 12GB RAM (LPDDR5)/256GB storage, Onyx Black and Ultramarine Blue colors: P48,990 ($965)

Close to U.S. pricing, yes? In fact, the 12GB/256GB version of the Pro model is cheaper here in the Philippines; abroad, it costs $999 (P50,755). No confirmation yet on when or if the 12GB/256GB variant of the regular OnePlus 8 will become available in the country.

We’re talking about a phone powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, arguably one of the best chips today. If we’re not mistaken, the only Snapdragon 865 device that’s officially being sold in the Philippines is the OPPO Find X2 Pro, and it’s retailing at P65,990 ($1,300).

Other noteworthy features of the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro include screens that have as fast as 120Hz refresh rate and have been awarded an A+ rating from DisplayMate; support for as high as 30-watt wireless charging and 5G (though we have to see if it’s compatible with our local telcos’ 5G networks); and camera setups that use the 48-megapixel Sony IMX689 sensor. You can check out the difference between the two smartphones at the end of the article.

We asked Digital Walker if we can already get the payment terms and options for the handsets. We’ll post them — plus the preorder details — as soon as the company shares the list with us. For now, just take note that some units have already arrived last week and that because of the COVID-19-related enhanced community quarantine, transactions will be made online, with pickups and deliveries done via GrabExpress and Lalamove.
