MORE information about the OPPO F5 are starting to trickle in. Unlike previous reports that were based on speculation, however, these new details come from the company itself.

In a PR material sent to us by OPPO Philippines, some key features of the upcoming selfie smartphone were confirmed, the most compelling of which is the screen. Not only will the F5 have a large display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and slim bezels around it, the resolution of the said display will be 1,080 x 2,160 pixels.

The local outfit also says that the screen can fit two apps in windows that are the same size for multitasking. It isn’t clear whether this feature will support most apps, just like Android Nougat’s native multitasking functionality, but we’re crossing our fingers that it will work out nicely.

It also bears mentioning that the color of the bezels of the phone will vary between color options. The gold unit sports white bezels, while the black and red color versions of the OPPO F5 have black bezels.

The specifications of the single front camera were not detailed, but it should be pivotal to the F5’s AI-powered beauty mode, which “uses artificial intelligence to recognize skin tone and type” and references facial images from a global database to improve a photo.

The AI technology approximates age and sex, scans more than 200 facial-recognition points and learns the unique features of a subject to make the best enhancements possible. Additionally, it will improve on analyzing and enhancing an image the more you use it. Sounds promising. We’ll be sure to try out and cover this new function in upcoming articles.

OPPO says to expect more “simple and humanized” features on the OPPO F5 when it launches in the Philippines on October 26. It will be launched afterwards in other Southeast Asian markets, such as Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, and in the second biggest smartphone market, India.
