November 9 will kick off Lazada’s Online Revolution sale event, where you can score an insane amount of discounted items, including the newly announced Cherry Mobile Cubix Cube OnRev Astro.
The smartphone has a bargain-basement price of P999 or roughly $20. Yep. That. Low.
It’s an anomaly in today’s mobile space, in which the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Apple iPhone X can command price points north of P50,000 ($976). OnRev, by the way, is shorthand for Online Revolution, we’re told.
The Cherry Mobile Cubix Cube OnRev Astro is about as basic as a smartphone can get. So the shiny plastic outside and humble internals? Totally understandable.
You do get a 4-inch capacitive (read: easy to navigate) touchscreen; a quad-core processor; 5- and 2-megapixel back and front cameras; and 3G connectivity, though. Take that, updated Nokia 3310 and your dumb-phone features!
The Cubix Cube OnRev Astro also runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, which is all we can really ask for in the segment. You won’t find this phone in physical stores, so all you have to go with are the photos on this page and on the rest of the web.
Cherry Mobile also debuted two other OnRev phones that will go on sale from November 9 until December 11, namely the Cubix Cube OnRev and Cubix Cube OnRev Max. The two are priced at P2,299 ($45) and P2,999 ($59), respectively. The extra cash gets you a metallic body with a larger, 6-inch screen (the standard version has a 5-inch display); a fingerprint reader; and Android 7.0 Nougat.
