Samsung Philippines will welcome a new smartphone to the local market pretty soon. The Samsung Galaxy J8, which first launched in India in May, will be available for preorder from July 21 to August 3, a Samsung representative has revealed to Revü.

The person also told us that the phone is expected to come in three color options — black, gold, and purple, as indicated on Samsung’s official website.

Pricing hasn’t been set yet for the Philippines. In India, however, the Samsung Galaxy J8 will run you ₹18,990 (around P14,780 or $276) for the version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage. It’s likely that the price here will be cheaper considering the unit we’re getting offers less memory. According to its local product page, the device will arrive with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.

Considering the Samsung Galaxy J6 and Galaxy A6 were sold in the Philippines for P13,990 ($261) and P16,490 ($308) at launch, we expect the J8 to compete in the P15,000 ($280) or less price range. Of course, that would put the two other phones in a precarious position. Then again, the market is incredibly tough right now from top to bottom.

The Samsung Galaxy J8 is built around the capable yet efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 platform. It’s the same CPU that drives the likes of Samsung’s own Galaxy A6+, the Vivo V7, and the Xiaomi Redmi 5.

The display measures 6 inches diagonally and uses AMOLED technology for a brighter and more vivid image. The screen resolution of 1,480 x 720 pixels means the Galaxy J8 has a taller aspect ratio that users may find appealing. Around the back, the handset features a dual-camera setup consisting of a 16-megapixel, f/1.7 camera and a 5-megapixel one with an aperture of f/1.9. A 16-megapixel camera occupies its top, notch-less bezel.

Software-wise, the Galaxy J8 runs Android 8.0 Oreo with the company’s Samsung Experience user interface skinned on top.
