Apple recently announced new iPad Pros at its iPad and Mac keynote event in Brooklyn, New York City. The latest premium slates from the American tech giant comes in sporting 11- and 12.9-inch displays, flat edges, facial recognition, and industry-leading internals to chew through console-quality games.

Yes, you read right. Console-quality games with console-quality graphics, all thanks to the new 7nm A12X Bionic processor that promises up to 2x better graphics than previous generations. In fact, Apple compared the 2018 iPad Pros (which, by the way, support physical game controllers) to a modern gaming console like Microsoft’s Xbox One S.

And perhaps it is. During the keynote, Apple showed off a gameplay demo of NBA 2K19 running at 60 frames per second on the iPad Pro. The graphics looks amazing, with detailed player modes, cloth simulation on team uniforms, anti-aliasing, bloom lighting, and depth of field — all the flourishes you expect from a quality console title.

Based on the demo, we’re close to believing the latest Apple iPad Pros can actually rival console graphics processors. But we’d still want to take a closer look in person. That aside, it’s still an achievement for a machine you can take anywhere, especially considering how vastly visually different NBA 2K19 on the iPad Pro is compared to its iPhone and Android counterparts.

Forget about the Apple Pencil stylus magnetically attaching to the new iPad Pro models for the first time and Apple making them a lot more like personal computers by giving them a USB-C port with the ability to charge other devices. There’s serious gaming potential here. We just need the Cupertino-based company to sell us a portable docking station now.
