Now that Huawei Philippines has released its Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro flagship phones, it’s already done for the rest of the year, right? Wrong. We just got a notification from our Lazada app, informing us that the Huawei Y9 2019, along with the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite, will be available on the online store starting November 11.

(Update, November 11: Who says this is fake news? 😉 Look: 4GB/64GB Huawei Y9 2019 now available in the Philippines for P12,990 or $245.)

Our jaws dropped when we first saw the price: P12,990 or roughly $244. That. Is. Insane. Especially considering that the device is quite like the similarly priced Honor 8X.

The Huawei Y9 2019 boasts a sizable display and battery — a 6.5-inch notched screen and a 4,000mAh battery, in particular — which should make it an ideal companion for those who, say, love watching videos and who are always on the go.

Even better, the next-generation Huawei Y9 smartphone comes with two cameras on each side, bringing the total number of sensors to four. The selfie cameras are 13 and 2 megapixels and the rear-facing ones, 16 and 2 megapixels.

The Android 8.1 Oreo handset is powered by HiSilicon Kirin 710, the same one that’s inside the Huawei Nova 3i. The chip has a dedicated neural-processing unit or NPU for artificial intelligence-related functions.

Two color options are listed on Lazada Philippines, too: Midnight Black and Sapphire Blue. We wonder if Huawei is bringing in variants with higher memory configurations and the version with Aurora Purple hue. Whatever the case may be, you should probably consider the Huawei Y9 2019 if you have a modest budget.
