Nearly a month after Tecno Mobile’s first 5G phone made its debut, sister brand Infinix Mobile has started teasing its initial 5G-enabled offering.

(Update, February 9: The Infinix Zero 5G is finally official!)

(Update, February 5: We have the Infinix Zero 5G launch dates for the Nigerian and Indian markets!)

The company’s Indian unit makes it clear that the Infinix Zero 5G is coming soon. No launch date — much more availability in other markets like the Philippines — has been announced just yet, but we expect Infinix to reveal the date in the next few days. (UPDATE, February 1: The launch is scheduled for February 8.)

Recall that the Infinix Zero 5G has already been in the rumor mill for quite some time. It was even listed on Google Play Console as early as December, giving credence to previous leaks revealing the design and key specs of the smartphone.

According to earlier reports, this model is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 900, the 5G chip that’s at the heart of devices such as the OPPO Reno6 and the OPPO Reno7 SE as well. The processor is supposedly paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and the user interface has Android 11 as its base. Also expect a 5,000mAh battery with 33-watt fast charging; a 6.7-inch LCD screen with 120Hz refresh rate, a resolution of 1,080 x 2,460, a 480ppi pixel density, and a cutout for the 16-megapixel selfie sensor; and a 48-megapixel triple rear camera.

And the design? The Infinix Zero 5G is seen to have a look that’s quite similar to that of the OPPO Find X3 Pro. The feature image of this article — the one at the topmost part, courtesy of a tipster — shows that there’s a tan (or orange?) color option besides black. It might be priced under ₹20,000 (roughly P13,688 or $268).
