The time has come. More than a year after the launch of ASUS’ ROG Phone 5, its true successor, the aptly named ASUS ROG Phone 6, will debut July 5.

(Update, July 5: The ASUS ROG Phone 6 series has been launched, and we got our hands on the Pro model!)

The Taiwanese manufacturer earlier made the announcement on social media. In addition to the next-gen gaming smartphone, ASUS is also expected to announce a slew of new accessories and gaming headphones.

Recall that the base edition or Classic model of the ROG Phone 5 went for as low as P39,995 (around $758) when it arrived in stores in May 2021. The lowest-priced model in the lineup came with 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It was powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G chipset.

A few months later, ASUS released the ROG Phone 5s and ROG Phone 5s Pro, which upgraded the processor to the slightly faster Snapdragon 888 Plus platform. The vanilla ROG Phone 5s was initially priced at P42,995 ($814) for 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Unsurprisingly, details of the upcoming ASUS ROG Phone 6 remain elusive, but it has been confirmed to be one of the first smartphones to use Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip. Expect better and more reliable cooling, too, for higher efficiency and improved sustained performance.

Earlier this month, the company sent an engineering device built around the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 to select tech journalists for benchmarking purposes. The new chip shows promise, specifically in the area of thermal management and throttling, at least based on initial test results.

ASUS says the ROG Phone 6 will pack an AMOLED display made by Samsung. It will offer a super-fast refresh rate of 165Hz, ideal for scrolling and really putting the internal hardware through its paces.

Considering the launch is just a little over a month away, it shouldn’t take long for the rumors to ramp up. We’ll probably have a good understanding of what to expect from the ASUS ROG Phone 6 prior to its official debut next month.
