HONOR Philippines will usher in 2023 with a 5G smartphone that’s aimed at the premium-midrange market.

(Update, February 3: Our HONOR X9a 5G review is up!)

The former Huawei sub-brand, which returned to the Philippines in the second half of 2022, has finally revealed that the HONOR X9a 5G will be launched locally January 19.

As can be seen in our teaser video below, this one’s tough as nails, boasting a 6.67-inch FHD+ display that’s not easy to break, thanks to a super-reinforced glass. Perfect for clumsy people like us, yeah? Not only that, the HONOR X9a 5G’s curved screen uses OLED technology with 10-bit colors, has a 120Hz refresh rate, gets 1,920Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, and offers an AI Anti Mistouch feature.

The phone features a 5,100mAh battery that should last for two days on a single charge and can deliver up to 12.5 hours of video streaming with just 30 minutes of charging. There’s a 64-megapixel main camera assisted by 5-megapixel ultrawide/depth and 2-megapixel macro shooters, all housed in the same iconic circular camera ring found in the company’s flagship Magic series. The handset likewise comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor, a 16-megapixel selfie camera, Android 12-based Magic UI 6.1, and 40-watt SuperCharge fast-charging tech.

In Malaysia, the HONOR X9a 5G’s 8GB/256GB version is priced at RM1,499, or roughly P18,785 or $343. We’ll know how much the device will sell for in the Philippines on the 19th, so be sure to catch the launch live on the brand’s Facebook page on that date. You’ll even get a chance to win the upcoming model.

“The HONOR X9a 5G … is something that HONOR fans should definitely look forward to, as it will change the definition of ‘premium,’” HONOR Philippines vice president for marketing Stephen Cheng said. “HONOR is confident to bring you a highly durable phone with an OLED curved screen and long-lasting battery life without breaking the bank.”
