Days after being available for preorder from Globe Postpaid, Huawei Philippines has announced the off-contract price of its most powerful — and most impressive — smartphone to date.

That’s right, we now know the local suggested retail price of the Huawei P40 Pro Plus, which comes in a ceramic-white finish and costs P69,990 (about $1,400) in the country, without a carrier contract.

Huawei Philippines’ announcement

The first 100 customers who purchase the phone through Lazada until July 10 will receive a pair of Gentle Monster smart glasses with speakers on both inner sides and a Huawei Band 4 fitness band for free. The freebie bundle is worth a total of P22,880 ($458).

The most premium model in the P40 series, the Huawei P40 Pro Plus is the first phone from the brand with a penta-camera setup that offers up to 100x zoom with a maximum focal range of up to the equivalent of a 240mm camera lens. It basically covers all your zoom needs — and apparently, that luxury comes at a high cost.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra also sells for the same price in local stores, but between the two, we’d pick the Huawei P40 Pro Plus in a heartbeat, largely due to its better camera system and agreeable size.

And unlike the S20 Ultra and most other phones, the latest Huawei flagship has a ceramic body mated to a steel frame, making it feel more luxurious and reassuringly hefty in the hand. Ceramic is more durable to scratches and dings than the glass used on most modern smartphones.

Inside, the phone is powered by a Kirin 990 5G chipset, which integrates Huawei’s Balong 5G modem to deliver super-fast data speeds in areas where 5G base stations are installed. Previously, Globe Telecom announced that its 5G network will go live in select locations in Makati and Taguig in July, although we could get a 5G signal at the Bonifacio Global City as early as March.
