Vivo has unveiled a new addition to its affordable Y series of smartphones — the Vivo Y31, which is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 and Funtouch OS 11 based on the latest Android 11 mobile operating system.

The Y31, which should not be confused with the Y31 the manufacturer announced way back in 2015, is an immediate successor to the MediaTek Helio P35-based Vivo Y30 that debuted in the Philippines last year. It was priced at P9,999 (about $208 converted) at launch.

The Vivo Y31 launched in India with a ₹16,490 price tag, which translates to roughly P10,862 or $226, for 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage. It will be offered in Racing Black and Ocean Blue colors. Though there’s no word yet on its local availability, the handset could launch in the Philippines soon, based on an earlier blog post on Vivo Philippines’ official website.

Talking about the screen, the Y31 comes with a 6.58-inch FHD+ waterdrop LCD. Unsurprisingly, it has a basic refresh rate of 60Hz. The front-facer in the notch has 16 megapixels, which is not bad given the price. There’s no under-display fingerprint sensor here; the Y31 has a physical side-mounted scanner on the right edge.

Moving on to the rear camera unit, the Vivo Y31 boasts a 48-megapixel main sensor paired with 2-megapixel depth and macro cameras. The latter lets you snap closeup shots as close as 4cm. Additionally, the Y31 comes with electronic image stabilization and Vivo’s Super Night mode.

The built-in battery is rated at 5,000mAh and has 18-watt fast charging via a USB-C port. The bottom also houses a standard headphone jack for wired audio.
