Just days after launching its flagship GT 2 series and the Dragon Ball-themed edition of the GT Neo2, Realme has announced the new Realme 9i in Vietnam.

(Update, April 28: And we have a Realme 9i launch date for the Philippine market!)

The successor to the Realme 8i, which was priced as low as P9,990 (about $195 converted) when it debuted in the Philippines last November, is available now for ₫6,490,000 ($285 or P14,636) through Realme Vietnam’s official channels. The lone 6GB/128GB storage variant comes in black and blue colors.

The 6GB/128GB model of the Realme 8i initially sold for P11,990 ($234) in the Philippines. That phone was also built around an older 12nm MediaTek Helio G96 platform and came with a 120Hz FHD+ LCD display.

The new Realme 9i upgrades to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chipset, which is built on a high-efficiency 6nm node, although its 6.6-inch adaptive screen maxes out at 90Hz. Besides its size and resolution, the display on the 9i also retains the 16-megapixel punch-hole camera of its predecessor.

You still get a 50-megapixel camera around the back, alongside macro and monochrome sensors. Meanwhile, the 5,000mAh battery in the Realme 9i supports fast charging up to 33 watts. As expected, the phone boots Realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11 out of the box.

Design-wise, the 9i takes a lot of inspiration from the company’s latest flagship models, except instead of the smooth, paper-like finish you get on the GT 2, the former features a glossy rear surface embellished with a micro-pattern of vertical lines.

We expect the Realme 9i to launch in the Philippines soon, if the company’s current smartphone portfolio is any indication.
