We accidentally stumbled upon an online listing showing that there’s a new OPPO phone arriving in the Philippines May 5. (Update, April 25: Yep, it’s the OPPO A96!)

Listing we at Revü spotted on Lazada Philippines

Unlike in previous cases, OPPO hasn’t divulged the model of the device this time around, preferring to refer to the handset as “OPPO smartphone.” Only two color variants will be available, and both will be exclusive for purchase to Lazada customers. Could it be the OPPO A96?

We may be wrong, but the Philippine government has already certified the A96 in February, hence our guess.

If our hunch is right, then don’t confuse the phone with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695-powered OPPO A96 5G that launched in China. The model that was granted a license to be sold here is the 4G version that uses a Snapdragon 680. The chipset can also be found in devices such as the Huawei Nova 9 SE, Redmi Note 11, and Realme 9i.

The OPPO A96 features a 5,000mAh battery with 33W SuperVOOC technology, a 90Hz punch-hole screen measuring 6.59 inches, and a 50-megapixel dual camera on the back. You can find its full specs below:

  • 6.59-inch display, FHD+ resolution, 90Hz refresh rate
  • 6nm octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor
  • Adreno 610 GPU
  • 8GB LPDDR4x RAM (+ 5GB virtual RAM)
  • 128GB/256GB UFS 2.2 storage
  • Dual 50-megapixel main, 2-megapixel portrait rear cameras
  • 16-megapixel front camera
  • Side fingerprint reader
  • 5,000mAh battery with 33-watt USB-C charging
  • ColorOS 11.1 based on Android 11
  • Color options: Sunset Blue, Pearl Pink, Starry Black

In Malaysia where the 8GB/256GB memory configuration is already up for sale starting today, April 23, the suggested retail price is RM1,299 (around P15,751 or $300).

Again, this is just a hunch based on the certification we saw before. Let’s just wait for the official announcement then. It could be any day now.
