Canalys’ latest quarterly report on the Philippine smartphone market is in, and we’re basically seeing the same players in the April to June 2021 ranking.

According to the market-research firm, OPPO offshoot brand Realme retained its crown as the biggest smartphone brand in the country in the second quarter of this year. It captured 23% of the local market, with a 51% increase year on year. Some of the models it launched during that period include the Realme 8, Realme 8 Pro, and Realme 8 5G.

Only one other company experienced growth in the Philippines last quarter. Xiaomi moved two places up to overtake Samsung and OPPO and land third place. It got 15% of the market, enjoying a phenomenal 318% annual growth, making it the fastest-growing smartphone brand locally.

It’s all positive news for Xiaomi, as it approaches a decade since it debuted the Xiaomi Mi1 handset. It was recently hailed as Q2 2021’s second largest smartphone brand worldwide; topped the ranking in Europe; toppled Samsung to become the No. 1 smartphone vendor in June; and ended up as the fastest-rising company in Fortune Global 500’s Internet and Retail Category in 2021.

Vivo may have slightly dipped from the same period in 2020, but it still had 19% share, enough to hold onto the No. 2 spot. It launched phones like the gorgeous-looking Vivo V21 5G and Vivo X60 — both showcasing the company’s prowess in camera technology — last quarter.

OPPO settled for fifth place with its 12% market share. It only rolled out three handsets in Q2 2021, namely the OPPO A15, OPPO A54, and OPPO A74 5G.

Samsung, once the market leader in the Philippines, experienced the biggest drop at 33%. It’s the only South Korean brand of the top 5.
