It seems that the Android One family of smartphones is growing, with LG Electronics most likely joining the lineup soon.
(Update, June 18, 4:05 p.m.: The unit is believed to be an Android One version of the LG Q7. An updated Google list of Play Certified devices reveals that “cv5a” is the model name for the LG Q7.)
A recognized member of Android-development community site XDA Developers has discovered an LG mobile running stock Android from the kernel source code of the LG Stylo 4. The latter, otherwise known as the Q Stylus, is set to be launched tomorrow by T-Mobile US, Inc. subsidiary MetroPCS.
The LG Stylo 4’s kernel source code
The Stylo 4’s tree source code reveals a model with the word “sprout” in it. In case you didn’t know, all the Android One phones released thus far has that suffix. Here are just a few of them:
- Cherry Mobile One: H940_sprout
- HTC U11 Life: htc_ocla1_sprout
- MyPhone Uno: UNO_sprout
- Nokia 7 Plus: B2N_sprout
- Xiaomi Mi A1: tissot_sprout
If ever, this is going to be the first of its kind for LG — on its own and not something that’s made in partnership with Google.
Unfortunately, it seems that the LG pure Android device will be exclusive to T-Mobile, considering that there are “tmo” and “us” in the model name. And take note that there’s no “sprout” suffix in the variants for the Japanese, Korean, and other international markets.

What is the LG phone like specs-wise? Based on the files XDA Developers has discovered in the source code, it will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450, the same processor that powers the Vivo V7, Vivo V7+, and Xiaomi Redmi 5.
Its 5.5-inch screen has an FHD+ (1,080 × 2,160) resolution and a tall, 18:9 aspect ratio. There’s support for Hi-Fi DAC, just like on the LG V30; a 3,000mAh battery; a USB Type-C port; and some form of waterproofing.
Hopefully, LG is working on another Android One unit meant for markets like the Philippines. Cross your fingers.
