(Update, February 14: And it’s launched! Read Huawei Nova 7i with Kirin 810 is official in Malaysia.)

The telecom and smartphone giant will announce the Huawei Nova 7i for the Malaysian market February 14th. It will be the first market to get it outside of China, which launched the Nova 7i as the Huawei Nova 6 SE in December 2019. It has been the practice of the company to rebrand devices for international release.

The Huawei Nova 7i is basically the global version of China’s Nova 6 SE, which is seen in this image

So while the Huawei Nova 7i will be unveiled as the first product in the Nova 7 series, it’s actually not a new device. In China, the Nova 6 SE is priced at ¥2,199, which is about P16,165 or $317 converted. We haven’t heard anything from Huawei Philippines about a local launch, but we’ll keep our eyes and ears peeled for more information.

Talking about specs, Nova 7i packs a rear-facing quad-lens camera setup with a 48-megapixel main sensor behind f/1.8 lens and secondary ultra-wide, macro, and depth cameras. In front, there’s a 16-megapixel, f/2.0 camera in a punch-hole cutout for selfies.

Notably, the HiSilicon Kirin 810 chipset, which has yet to be released in some international markets including the Philippines, powers the upcoming handset. The 7nm chip is paired with Mali-G52 MP6 graphics, 8GB RAM, and 128GB of expandable storage.

Huawei is pitching the Kirin 810 directly against the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730, which is built on an 8nm process. The Snapdragon 730 can be found in the OPPO Reno 2, Redmi K30, and many other devices.

The all-screen front measures 6.4 inches and has a resolution of 2,310 x 1,080 pixels. It is LCD, not OLED, and there’s no fingerprint sensor underneath it. The Huawei Nova 7i has a side-mounted scanner along the right edge, similar to the Huawei Nova 5T. It also has a 4,200mAh battery that supports USB-C fast charging up to 40 watts.
