Mark those calendars! Realme, the Philippines’ leading smartphone brand based on Canalys and IDC sell-in reports for 2021, will launch its latest Realme 9 Pro series in the country March 15. As usual, you can catch the launch event on the company’s Facebook page.

(Update: Our Realme 9 Pro Plus review and Realme 9 Pro review are already up!)

The lineup, which comprises the Realme 9 Pro Plus and Realme 9 Pro, was introduced globally last month. Pricing has not been set locally, but in India, the series is priced as follows:

  • Realme 9 Pro Plus
    • 6GB/128GB: ₹24,999 (around $325 or P16,971)
    • 8GB/128GB: ₹26,999 ($351 or P18,329)
    • 8GB/256GB: ₹28,999 ($377 or P19,687)
  • Realme 9 Pro
    • 6GB/128GB: ₹17,999 ($234 or P12,219)
    • 8GB/128GB: ₹20,999 ($273 or P14,256)

Naturally, the prices tend to be a bit lower for the Indian market given the taxes and other local fees.

One of the highlights this year is Realme’s color-changing Light Shift Design on the Sunrise Blue variant of the Realme 9 Pro Plus and Realme 9 Pro. It uses a fluorite-glass material at the back, giving it the ability to shift from a light-blue shade to a pinkish-red color when exposed to sunlight and UV light. You might recall that the Vivo V23 5G, which is under BBK Electronics as well, has adopted a similar chameleon-like design quirk, except the phone features a gold primary color.

For those who prefer a darker, more traditional aesthetic, the Realme 9 Pro models are also available in Aurora Green.

Besides the difference in raw performance and panel quality, the most notable distinction between the two handsets is their rear camera systems. The top-of-the-line Plus variant boasts a flagship-grade 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 image sensor with optical image stabilization. The OPPO Find X3 Pro, a fantastic shooter in nearly all lighting conditions, boasts the same exact sensor. Its successors, the OPPO Find X5 and Find X5 Pro, have identical primary sensors as well.

We have the two 5G phones in our gadgets lab, so we’ll share with you our reviews in the next week or two.
